Who is this Medical Coding Certification for?

MMI’s CCS exam prep course is intended only for those with at least two prior years of professional coding experience. This course covers advanced coding topics and should not be attempted by those who are new to the field. Additionally, AHIMA will not award the CCS credential to anyone who does not have the required two years of experience, regardless of that person’s performance in the prep course.

About the Instructor

The Hospital Coding & CCS Exam Prep course was created by Dorothy Steed, CCS, CDIP, CPC-H, CHCC, CPUM, CPUR, CPHM, CPMA, ACS-OP, CCS-P, RCC, CPMA, RMC, CEMC, CPC-I, CFPC, PCS, FCS, CPAR.

Ms. Steed is a nationally recognized AHIMA instructor with 38 years of experience in healthcare.

Course Eligibility Requirements

In order to register for the CCS exam prep course, you must have at least two years of professional coding experience, as well as a working knowledge of medical and anatomical terminology.

The Hospital Coding & CCS Prep course from Medical Management Institute is designed to prepare students to sit for the Certified Coding Specialist exam from AHIMA. This credential is an advanced coding certification that is meant for experienced coders only; it should not, under any circumstances, be attempted by beginners. Roughly 50% of those who take this exam fail it on their first attempt.

Additionally, this course does not guarantee that the student will attain the CCS credential. It is the student’s responsibility to complete the lessons and learn the course material. MMI is not responsible for each individual student’s outcome and will not issue refunds based on a student’s CCS exam results.

Eligibility Requirements
Candidates must meet one of the following eligibility requirements:
• By Credential: RHIA, RHIT, or CCS/CCS-P;
• By Education: Completion of a coding training program that includes anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology,
pharmacology, medical terminology, reimbursement methodology, intermediate/advanced ICD
diagnostic/procedural and CPT coding;
• By Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of related coding experience directly applying codes;
• By Credential
with Experience: CCA plus one (1) year of coding experience directly applying codes;
• Other: Coding credential from other certifying organization plus one (1) year coding experience directly
applying codes.

The Hospital Coding & CCS Exam Prep Program is administered completely online through MMI’s password-protected, user-friendly learning platform. Upon enrolling in the program, you will create an account that will allow you to begin training online. The platform includes group discussion, engaging reading material, and interactive learning tools consisting of practice exams and e-flashcards to test your knowledge and progress throughout. Additionally, this training includes instructor support via email/phone, so you will have access to MMI’s network of certified instruction staff throughout your studies.
